Well, where do I start?

The 1996 is not one that I have tried, but heard that it is quite similar to the 1997, which just so happens to be my favourite of Laurent-Perrier.

First, the presentation. I know a lot of people don't really care about appearances with champagne, but I do, at some level, appreciate a nice box, even to go as far as an attractive bottle!

The nose is delicious, with hints of ginger and a very light tone of nutmeg, with a distant hint of orange zest. The palate is similar, but with a gentle undertone of biscuits, and a light tone of vanilla with a VERY light hint of apple, but certainly not overpowering. The ginger note transpires into a delicious warm spice which lingers with the mousse.

This is such an easy drinking champagne, with a subtle, but still quite lively bubble, and a mousse which is warm, not overpowering and certainly not sulfurous. I was shocked to find a bottle in Sainsburys on 22/12/2007 for £29.99, the 1997 vintage. If anyone does manage to see one on the shelf, buy it, its a must!
